Uganda Pastors Leadership Conference

Fresch Ministries International has been requested to sponsor leadership training for local pastors in Lira, Uganda. Rev. James Ekwang is the senior pastor of Truth Fountain Cathedral in Lira, and a member of Pastor David’s cohort in the Global Leadership masters degree program through Fuller Seminary. He has asked if FMI could sponsor a three-day training seminar and if Pastor David could bring the teaching. There exists an overwhelming need for such training because:

  • such training opportunities have not occurred because of the 24 year insurgency in the region
  • most leaders who emerged during these times have inadequate understanding of their roles as leaders
  • most of these pastors live in poverty and have extended families to care for. They need encouragement and support to continue in twin responsibilities of family and the work of God

We are planning to sponsor this training seminar for 200 pastors in September. FMI will cover the entire cost of the seminar, including food for six meals, a new Bible for each pastor, notebooks, pens, rucksacks and sandals for each pastor, air fare for Pastor David, and miscellaneous expenses such as local travel from Entebbe airport (377km), plus provision of 300 New Testaments to Truth Fountain Cathedral for presentation to new converts. Total cost is estimated at $12,000.

Impacts on the local leaders from this training, as expressed by Rev. Ekwang, are expected to be tremendous:

  • Leaders will get encouragement to do God’s work. This will cause them to re- commit their lives to the Lord to do his work.
  • Bible training will affect the lives of the leaders spiritually. And when their lives are affected, this will result in the lives of their congregation being affected as well.
  • This training will help build the capacity of the pastors to be able to handle greater challenges that have often caused some to quit.
  • Sound teaching about ministry in context of scripture will open the eyes of the Pastors, thus enabling them to begin to personally develop visions for ministry.
  • This program will bring a sense of brotherhood among the leaders; unity among the churches, thus narrowing down the gap of division that has often these days characterized much of Christianity.
  • Finally, this program will afford us a time for global fellowship; of free interaction, and learning from one another, for all who will participate.

This training goes to the heart of FMI’s mission to encourage organic growth by facilitating indigenous leaders. Please pray for this conference.
